Pneumatic and hydraulic actuators are very common because they do not need power and simple structure, reliable performance, switching speed is extremely fast, the same can also be used with ball valve and butterfly valve, so the field is very wide.

The other is a multi-turn valve, also known as the straight stroke. These valves can be non-rotating lifting stem or rotating non-lifting stem, requiring additional rotation to drive the valve to the open or closed position. Multi-turn valves include through Valve (globe valve) , gate valve, knife gate valve and so on.

Among them, fluid-driven multi-rotary or linear output actuator is often used to operate through valve (globe valve) and gate valve, because of its simple structure, reliable performance, it is easy to achieve the fail-safe operation mode. In general, electric multi-turn actuators are used to drive gate and globe valves, and hydraulic or pneumatic actuators are only considered when no power is available.

Alternatively, pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders or film actuators with linear output can also drive the valve.
