Working Principle of Air Actuated Butterfly Valves

Air actuated butterfly valves use compressed air to control the opening and closing of a butterfly valve. The basic working principle of air actuated butterfly valves involves the following steps:

Compressed Air Supply: Compressed air is supplied to the air actuator of the valve, which then converts the air pressure into mechanical force.

Actuator Movement: The actuator moves in response to the air pressure, which causes the valve stem to move and the valve disc to rotate.

Valve Opening: As the valve disc rotates, the flow of fluid or gas through the valve increases. The valve is fully open when the disc is in a 90-degree position.

Valve Closing: When the air pressure is released from the actuator, the valve disc rotates back to its original position, closing the valve and stopping the flow of fluid or gas.

Pneumatic Butterfly Valve is divided into Spring Return(Single Acting) Pneumatic Butterfly Valve and Double Acting Pneumatic Butterfly Valve.

Spring Return(single acting) pneumatic actuator is the spring-driven Piston structure, there are two principles: normally open(NO) and normally closed(NC), which means that: when air goes in, the valve closed(NO); when air goes in, the valve opened(NC).

Double Acting pneumatic valves need to be equipped with 5-way 2-position solenoid valve to control the air goes into different entrances and then control the valve open and close. When driving the same valve body, the opening and closing speed of double acting is faster than the single acting.
